The Philosophy

Chabad-Lubavitch is a philosophy, a movement, and an organization. It is considered to be the most dynamic force in Jewish life today.

Lubavitch appropriately means the “city of brotherly love”The word “Chabad” is a Hebrew acronym for the three intellectual faculties of: chachmah-wisdom, binah-comprehension and da’at-knowledge. The movement’s system of Jewish religious philosophy, the deepest dimension of G-d’s Torah, teaches understanding and recognition of the Creator, the role and purpose of Creation, and the importance and unique mission of each Creature. This philosophy guides a person to refine and govern his and her every act and feeling through wisdom, comprehension and knowledge.

In the Beginning
Since its inception in 1972, Beth Shalom Congregation has grown from 13 founding families to a community of more than 250 members. Beth Shalom fosters an intimate, caring atmosphere in which every member is important. Families grow and learn together by participating in religious services, synagogue committees, and our exciting social activities. Although the relative youth of membership is one of our strengths, Beth Shalom embraces a diverse group of Jacksonville Jewry of all ages.

Facilities
Beth Shalom quickly outgrew its temporary “storefront synagogue” and moved into its new building on Sunbeam Road in the summer of 1974. Our facility includes an open sanctuary which can be arranged as needed, our social hall which can comfortably accommodate 250 for a sit down affair, a kitchen in which meat or dairy meals can be readily prepared in accordance with strictly Kosher guidelines, a book and music lending library, our classroom wing, and of course our office suites. The beautiful natural setting complements the simple, functional structure which serves as our home. Beth Shalom is conveniently located just east of State Road 13 in Mandarin at 4072 Sunbeam Road.

Our synagogue cooperates with other Jewish agencies and religious organizations locally in order to assist our growing vibrant, creative, Jewish community.

The members of Beth Shalom believe that a synagogue must create a sense of friendship and warmth among its members and the size of our membership is something that we nurture and care about because it means that relationships are personal rather than remote.
